AN HERBAL MEDITATION This meditation may be used to deepen your connection with the earth and the plant kingdom. I have found that many people are surprised by which herb chooses to share with them. Try to let go of any preconceived notions about what the experience ought to be like. There is no right or wrong. This is a beautiful and personal experience between you and your plant ally. Sit or lie comfortably. You may wish to burn candles or incense and play soft music. You may prefer to sit in your garden or visit a quiet park. Choose whatever environment is most comfortable to you. Begin by taking slow, deep breaths – in through your nose and exhaling gently through your mouth. Feel you belly and chest slowly rise and fall. Feel each breath strengthening your connection to Mother Earth. Feel yourself becoming open and receptive. Visualize a path leading to a safe and protected place. This may be a forest, a meadow, a seashore… As you walk along this path you feel yourself becoming aware of your connection to each flower, tree and shrub. You realize that each is an integral part of the whole and that each possesses marvelous gifts. They are sentient beings and they are willing to guide and teach you. Listen. You may notice that a particular plant draws your attention. As you go to this herb your heart is open and filled with love. Express you wish to learn from her. Be aware of any images, sensations or words that may come. Listen to what she has to tell you… When she has finished telling you her story, give thanks for the wisdom that has been shared. Know that you can come back to this safe place at any time. As you return down the path your heart is full of joy and gratitude for the gifts that you have received. When you are ready, slowly open your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths. You may wish to write about your experience or draw/paint an impression of your plant ally. These sessions can become a rich source of information and insight. You may also wish to create your own meditations. The only requirements are those of openness and respect for Mother Earth and our herbal allies. |
