 Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) is a member of the Myrtle family which has been used by the Aborigines for centuries and is now enjoying great popularity world-wide. The pale yellow oil is steam distilled from the needle like leaves and small twigs. Numerous studies have shown tea tree to have antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Due to this, it has been successfully used to treat such conditions as candida, acne, thrush, and athlete's foot. The scent is quite distinctive, having a fresh medicinal quality that blends well with eucalyptus, lemon or lavender. Combined with rosemary it helps to condition the scalp and alleviate dandruff.
